Props& Equipment
Georgina was in charge of knowing what props and equipment we needed so here are some of what we feel necessary to use when we will film our thriller:
Permission Letter
We had to send off a permission letter to Swanley council in order for us to make sure we can film in that certain area.

In our group, we have no decided what are the most important jobs we need to achieve by our deadline on Friday 16th December 2011.

Sound&Foley
While at the british film insititute we learnt about sound&foley. It was very interesting to learn about as I had not known what this was before. I never had heard of the term foley before.
Foley:
Foley basically means when a sound is recorded , foley will either replace the sound or compliment it. It tends to make the audience think that the sound effects are real.
A good example of a thriller film that uses sound and foley effectively would be Once upon a time in the west.

Dexter Remake- My Evaluation
When remaking the opening titles of 'Dexter', some aspects that i thought would be easy to film, turned out to be quite complicated especially when trying to get the right shot. As the opening scene mostly consists of close-ups, they were quite tricky to film and keep the camera steady without using a tri-pod. It was also quite difficult to cut out extra background noise and distractions. We each took turns in filming a different part of the sequence, for example I would shoot the cooking of the bacon& eggs and the making of the coffee while Georgina would film the bathroom shots and Danica would film the rest. As some supplies were not available for us to access we had to improvise and use what we thought looked realistic, for example we had no red meat so we had to use bacon, we didn't have a coffee machine at hand so we used regular coffee granuales and a normal mug. This however, did teach me to get supplies ready before we start filming incase something happened and to be more prepared. Considering this, I am happy with the final remake, it looks quite effective and similar to the original piece and it was not as time consuming as i thought it would be.

This is our 'Dexter' morning sequence remake that myself,Georgina and Danica produced.

BFI Trip
Yesterday, both media classes went to the British Film Institute in London to watch and experience the different types of opening title sequences, what aspects make a thriller and advice on what to do and what not to do when making our own thriller.
I learnt that there are some different key features involved when making a successful thriller:
- Genre
- Narrative
- Character
- Amotsphere
- Setting
We also looked at the website http://www.artofthetitle.com/ to watch some interesting opening title sequences that could inspire us. Some good examples of this were, catch me if you can, Nepolian Dynamite, Dawn of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs the world. They each had interesting ways of presenting the titles.
Dexter Fletcher was one of the guests that came to speak to us about making a succesful film, what kind of things he has starred in and how to be successful. You have to be determined and confident.
We also learnt that there are 10 steps to making a film and some examples of common predictable student films that arent really the right path to go down:
- Saw: victim tied up
- Scream: hooded stalker follows victim
- Waking up: clean teeth, brushing your hair, leave house
- Se7en: killer stabs polaroid pictures
- Lock Stock: gangsters play cards
- Flashback or flashfoward
These are some examples to miss, wouldn't get you a very high grade or have a good plot.
