Adding titles

In the group, I took on the role of completing the title sequence, I had to decide whereabouts the titles would go in each scene and what effects I think would look best over them. I used the programme final cut, to place in the correct places. At first I had to experiment on the programme so I could get used to using it, but then I started to add the real titles and effects. I thought it was quite tricky at times and if i could do it again i would make sure to take more time and choose different effects.. one of my favourite effects was the bad film, as it made the shots look more like a thriller. I chose to use this all the way through.

In our group we had to create a rough design of our storyboard for our thriller title sequence, we added some more scenes when we were filming as we came up with more ideas..

Timeline

For the final week of finishing our thrillers and blogs we had to make a timeline each in our groups to decide how many hours we were going to spend working on our thrillers before the final deadline.

Title Sequence-group meeting

Today, my group re-shot the title sequence making sure that we had all the right equipment and props to make it link in with our film, we used a tray, water, photos, camera, camera bag, police documents, newspaper articles and line&pegs to show that we were developing the photos from the stalker.

We then uploaded the footage to final cut and edited it until it fitted in with our thriller. I then started to add the titles before we ran out of time, so I will finish them in tomorrows lesson.

Titles

When our group decided what person would be completing what task, I decided to choose titles as it was new to me and I would learn something new a long the way. I had to go through a tutorial of how to use the programme, After Effects and experiment with it so I knew everything I needed to do in order to get effective titles. I also looked through dafont.com to look for effective fonts for our titles that would link in with our theme of death& photography.
I also looked for possible title animations,

-Word flash
These were the only animations that could possibly link in with a camera.

Brainstorm- Title sequence

In our group, while Danica was uploading the footage, me and Georgina thought up of a number of ways on how our titles could appear in our opening sequence. We need it to look interesting as it is an important part of the film and will help us achieve our marks.

Props - Editing police documents

In our group, we decided that we would have a job each to save us time. Me and Georgina decided that we would find some police documents/ criminal records from the internet and edit them myself so that they are not copied straight from google.
I chose a document from the internet and placed into Photoshop.  i then experimented with the tools and found a blur tool which would allow me to cross out any unwanted names and dates. It also made the document look quite old which is a good thing. I then used the pencil tool to cross out some random sections , that made it look like a police investigator had done it. I also used a red pencil to circle any names that i had added to make it look more effective.

Georgina was in charge of knowing what props and equipment we needed so here are some of what we feel necessary to use when we will  film our thriller:

This is the logo that Georgina created, we will be using it for our production name.

For one of my indivdual tasks, I created a moodboard that involved different aspects and things to do with out thriller film.

Dexter Remake- My Evaluation

When remaking the opening titles of 'Dexter', some aspects that i thought would be easy to film, turned out to be quite complicated especially when trying to get the right shot. As the opening scene mostly consists of close-ups, they were quite tricky to film and keep the camera steady without using a tri-pod. It was also quite difficult to cut out extra background noise and distractions. We each took turns in filming a different part of the sequence, for example I would shoot the cooking of the bacon& eggs and the making of the coffee while Georgina would film the bathroom shots and Danica would film the rest. As some supplies were not available for us to access we had to improvise and use what we thought looked realistic, for example we had no red meat so we had to use bacon, we didn't have a coffee machine at hand so we used regular coffee granuales and a normal mug. This however, did teach me to get supplies ready before we start filming incase something happened and to be more prepared. Considering this, I am happy with the final remake, it looks quite effective and similar to the original piece and it was not as time consuming as i thought it would be.

This is our 'Dexter' morning sequence remake that myself,Georgina and Danica produced.

25 word treatment for thriller

For our independant study, in our production groups, we each had to come up with a 25 word treatment for our chosen thriller.

Call me insane
A women who returns from holiday,finding herself as the target of mysterious calls and threats, trying to convince those around her that shes not insane.

Conventional Characters - Phycologist, stalker ( patient)

Some of the films that gave me inspiration for my treatment are Shutter Island and Phone Booth.

My opening scene could be;
A hand holding a phone sending the message switching between her and the patients hand.

Parity Re-make

For our christmas holiday work, in our production groups we are to remake a extract from a school-made production of Parity. There are certain aspects required to remake the film, these are props, locations, actors and costume.
The props for the production are;
-Knife
-Mop+bucket
-Fake blood
- Make-up
-Mirror

Location;
The actual location would be a toilet that involved the following;
-Toilet Door
-Taps+Sink
-Cubicles
-Mirror

Actors;
2 Men/Women depending on group
1 killer
1 dead person

Costume;
-Suit which includes (tie, trousers,jacket,shirt)
Or smart business dress for girls.

#Every thriller involves a crime scene and must have clues.
Costumes will tell you something about the character.

Opening Title Sequences

In our lesson we were also discussing some title sequences that would be good to recreate as our own independant study...

My group which has changed slightly, Myself,Georgina and Danica have chosen to recreate the opening sequence to Dexter - the morning routine. We think this will be an interesting challenge for our group to film. Snatch however would be quite tricky to film so dexter is our chosen option.

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

We have to write an evaluation for the preliminary task '6 ways to kill your husband'

I think in our preliminary ask, we fulfilled the brief quite well, even though we struggled with some camera angles and the 180 degree rule.

The continuity throughout our opening sequence could have been better because at one point the conversation doesn't flow and the 180 degree rule didn't work too well. 

The shot reverse shot and match on action is put on the sequence quite well. 

The composition and framing of our sequence could have been better and the story board could have had more images. 

Storyboard+Script for Preliminary Task

In today's lesson, my group are preparing to film our preliminary task. Before we film we had to make sure our pre production work was completed, which meant our storyboard and our shot list were completed.
These are the pictures for our storyboard; we made a few mistakes and are going to have to correct them once we have finished filming, we have to change a couple of the shots. 2+3 need to be cropped or re done and 6,7+8 need more photos to make it continuos.
Sophie was in charge of the shot list while myself and Georgina were in charge of the storyboard.
